Bringing Light and Opportunity to Unelectrified Communities in Sabah

The livelihoods of Sabah’s Indigenous and local communities are interwoven with rainforests, mountains, rivers, mangroves, and coastlines. While stewarding their ancestral territories and important ecosystems, many communities are located in isolated regions where services like sealed roads, water, and access to energy are severely limited. 72% of all unelectrified Malaysians are in Sabah. These villages rely heavily on household diesel generators, which are expensive to run (costing RM 200-300/month on average), polluting, and typically only provide 4-6 hours of electricity per day – constraining communities’ ability to meet their energy needs and limiting their opportunities.

Through this initiative, Schneider Electric is supporting unelectrified communities by providing solar‑powered Mobiya lamps expanding households’ access to lighting and allowing nighttime activities like reading, studying and fishing.

All cash donations are managed securely by MySkills Foundation, a Ministry‑sanctioned non‑profit known for transparent financial governance. On-the-ground distribution will be carried out by Forever Sabah, a trusted local organization working closely with rural and indigenous communities across the state.
